CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA- Huber Engineered Woods LLC (HEW), a subsidiary of J.M. Huber Corporation, announced today the construction of a new $440 Million oriented strand board (OSB) facility in Cohasset, Minnesota. The addition of the plant will allow the company to increase production of its innovative ZIP System® and AdvanTech® structural panels.

The manufacturing facility is expected to generate over 150 new direct jobs in Itasca County and the surrounding areas, as well as growth opportunities in adjacent local industries such as forestry and trucking. “We look forward to being an integral part of the community and a key partner in the future success of the county and the state. We are pleased and excited to bring this new investment and set of employment opportunities to Itasca County and the surrounding areas,”said HEW President Brian Carlson. “It is our desire for our new Minnesota operations to be a shining example of our company’s commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.”

The Cohasset location will be HEW’s sixth mill in the United States and its first in Minnesota, pending site acquisition, approval of certain legislative initiatives, and financial assistance from additional state entities. The new mill will complement HEW’s existing five mills in Georgia, Maine, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Virginia. HEW’s manufacturing operations serve the growing needs of single-family, multifamily, and commercial builders, as well as a select number of OEM industries. The distribution of products is facilitated by a nationwide network of premier building products dealers and distributors.

“We’ve seen a strong start to 2021 and are optimistic for continued growth of our specialty products in the coming years. We are pleased to share our plans for increased production to help keep pace with the growing demands of our customers for ZIP System and AdvanTech products, as well as future innovative solutions that we strive to deliver.” said HEW President Brian Carlson.

The new HEW manufacturing facility will span more than 400 acres and will incorporate some of the most advanced processes and technologies available for environmentally sustainable manufacturing operations.
The mill will manufacture a variety of products and significantly enhance HEW’s ability to service the Western and Midwestern housing markets.

The new HEW manufacturing facility will manufacture the company’s premium panel products, which have transformed how homes and multi-family projects manage air and water in roof, wall, and subfloor assemblies. J.M. Huber Corporation, the parent company of HEW, was founded in 1883 and has grown to become one of the largest family-owned privately held businesses in the United States, with approximately 4,000 employees in 20 countries. This project is contingent upon financial assistance from IRRRB, the State of Minnesota, DEED, the City of Cohasset, Itasca County, and MN Power.
