Public Notice EMERGENCY FOOD & SHELTER PROGRAM FUNDS AVAILABLE GREATER DANBURY The United Way of Western Connecticut Northern Fairfield County area (Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, Redding, and Ridgefield) has been awarded $61,046 in Federal Funds from FEMA’s Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP) through the Department of Homeland Security to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the community. The Local EFSP Board is now accepting applications for funding from qualified organizations serving in this area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program. Under terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
