U.S. Census: Housing Starts Surge 11.8% In November 2021
Washington, D.C. – In November 2021, housing starts in the United States increased 11.8 percent to an annualized rate of 1.679 million, the highest level since March and well above the market consensus of 1.568 million.
Single-family housing starts increased 11.3 percent to 1.173 million, while units in buildings with five or more units increased 12.9 percent to 506 thousand.
Starts increased in the South (18.4% to 933 thousand), the West (5.1% to 412 thousand), and the Northeast (27.5 percent to 130 thousand), but decreased in the Midwest (-7.3 percent to 204 thousand).
