Construction Spending Unchanged in August: U.S. Census

Washington, D.C. – Construction spending in the United States remained virtually unchanged in August of 2021, at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of USD 1.584 trillion, after increasing 0.3 percent in July and defying market expectations of a 0.3 percent increase in August it remained unchanged.

Private construction spending fell 0.1 percent in August (vs. 0.2 percent in July), with the majority of the decreases coming from transportation (-2.4 percent) and lodging (-2.3 percent), while public construction spending increased 0.5 percent (the same as in July).
