Per Department Of Labor All states are eligible to apply for State Apprenticeship Expansion

The U.S. Department of Labor has announced an expansion of $87.5 million in grants to Registered Apprenticeships. Approximately $40 million of said funds will be gifted to states which have implemented diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and have demonstrated promotion among this realm of the workplace.

All states are eligible to apply for State Apprenticeship Expansion, Equity and Innovation Grants. Depending on state capacity and needs, grants range among $2-$10 million and will build upon the Executive Order signed by President Joe Biden on Registered Apprenticeship.

Patricia Smith, Senior Counselor to the Secretary Labor, has stated that the Biden-Harris administration is dedicated to ensuring equality for everyone across the United States. The grants will therefore allow the federal government to work directly with states in order to provide new pathways of opportunity to America’s working class.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Suzi Levine made note that the emphasis placed on equity in these grants will dutifully provide opportunities for the underrepresented in Registered Apprenticeships. A strong economy is dependent on the skills of diverse communities.

The SAEEI program is administered by the Employment and Training Administration. Resources will authorize governors to support RAP functions and enlarge the system’s capacity to manifest new RAPs.

Applicants must submit a proposal of innovative strategies which would be beneficial in expanding and modernizing apprenticeship, specifically around recruitment and program enhancement. States also will need to consider the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and other local events when addressing the needs of the skills gap.
