United States Of America – A BYLT:™ survey of asphalt plants located in Boston, Rhode Island, Connecticut and California reported that plants have a steady supply and prices ranged from $80-$98 per ton of HMA. Despite increases in raw materials and port bottlenecks on all coasts asphalt prices have remained steady for the end user contractor.
Most asphalt is a derivative of crude processes and other by products of oil and gas processing. Colorado had major supply issues over the last few months resulting in canceled and postponed jobs from lack of local supply. The United States is heavily reliant right now on domestic production of asphalt used in HMA mix design which could lead to be problematic shortly if EU issues and domestic continue. Signals from the asphalt shingle segments should be monitored as well.

Despite large price increases in domestic raw asphalt material prices local plants have only shown minor increases since spring. The end of the asphalt season is approaching fast. Depending on plant stock of raw materials and purchase pricing on replenishment could lead to higher prices in the near future coupled with other increases to overhead that have accumulated in recent months.
Int. Bitumen Markets
Bitumen has seen a 26% Increase this year most of which has been over the last few months. BYLT: eyes will continue to watch the Infrastructure Bill advancements and quarry production/costs for aggregates and sand over the next months. Inflation and other factors like regulation and Americas lien off oil productions will play a role as well.
